Father : Loss of a Loved One
On 8th January 2025, I lost my father, Shri Ashokkumar Ghela.
My father was my anchor and inspiration, and his absence created a void words cannot fill.
Through this journey of grief, I found comfort in spiritual practices, which helped me heal and connect with his essence in profound ways.

1. Start Your Day with Prayer and Meditation
Prayer became my sanctuary during this challenging time. It allowed me to pour my emotions into words and connect with a higher power.
I found peace in expressing gratitude for the wonderful memories I shared with my father. Even a few minutes of prayer can work wonders.
Meditation complemented my prayers, helping me quiet my restless thoughts. Each morning, I took deep breaths and visualized my father’s kind smile, which felt like a gentle hug for my soul.
- Prayer can help you express gratitude and find inner peace.
- Meditation calms the mind and brings clarity during grief.
- Dedicate 10–15 minutes daily to this practice.

2. Light a Candle or Diya in Remembrance
Each evening, I light a diya (ghee lamp) in memory of my father.
This simple act feels sacred and allows me to honor his presence in my life. The soft glow of the flame reminds me of the eternal connection we share, even in his absence.
Creating a remembrance ritual, such as lighting a candle or diya, can provide comfort and help guide their soul’s journey. It’s also a special way to pause and reflect on their lasting influence.
“The light of a candle is a symbol of love and remembrance.”

3. Write Your Emotions in a Journal
Grief comes in waves, and writing became my lifeline during the overwhelming moments. Journaling allowed me to process emotions, reflect on memories, and find solace in expressing thoughts I couldn’t share aloud.
I often wrote letters to my father, sharing my feelings, thoughts, and even updates about life. These letters became a way to feel connected to him, as though he was listening with his kind, understanding heart.
- Write freely without editing or worrying about structure.
- Use prompts such as: “What do I miss most today?”
- Journaling helps organize your emotions and provides emotional clarity.

4. Celebrate Their Life with Gratitude
Initially, remembering my father brought tears. But gradually, I shifted my focus to celebrating his life instead of mourning his loss.
I cooked his favorite dishes, shared cherished stories with loved ones, and even planted a tree in his honor. These acts became a tribute to the wonderful person he was.
Gratitude became a bridge between us, helping me cherish the love he shared and the memories he left behind. Celebrating their life keeps their spirit alive in your heart.
- Create a photo album or scrapbook of their favorite moments.
- Host a small gathering to share stories and remember them fondly.
- Contribute to a cause they cared deeply about.

5. Seek Meaning Through Spiritual Practices
When the weight of grief felt unbearable, I turned to spiritual texts and teachings. Reading about the eternal journey of the soul gave me comfort and a sense of acceptance.
I also found healing in nature—whether through long walks, watching sunrises, or sitting under a tree. Nature often speaks to us in ways that words cannot.
Exploring spirituality can provide new perspectives and help you navigate the challenges of loss. Practices such as mindfulness and connecting with a spiritual community can make the journey more meaningful.
- Read spiritual books like The Bhagavad Gita or The Power of Now.
- Spend time in nature to find solace and clarity.
- Engage in mindfulness practices to ground yourself in the present.

Finding Peace Amidst Loss
Grieving is a deeply personal and non-linear process. These spiritual practices became a lifeline for me, offering healing and a sense of connection to my father.
If you’ve lost someone dear, be gentle with yourself and allow time for the pain to soften. Trust that love transcends all boundaries—even death.
My father’s presence continues to guide me in unseen ways.
While his physical absence is deeply felt, I carry his love and wisdom in my heart.
Every prayer, memory, and step forward is a testament to the bond we share.
