Dasha Maa Vrat Story: Nala Damyanti Story
Once upon a time, there was a king named Nal and his beloved queen, Damayanti. They ruled over a prosperous kingdom with two sons, enjoying a life filled with joy and contentment.
One day, during the festival of Holi Dasha, a Brahmin woman visited the palace, offering a sacred string called Dasha Dori to Queen Damayanti. The string was believed to bring happiness and peace when worn during the festival. The queen accepted it, following the tradition.
However, King Nala, unaware of the significance, questioned why she wore a simple string instead of her precious gold necklaces. Without waiting for an answer, he removed the string, unknowingly disrespecting a divine symbol.
That night, the king had a troubling dream where a deity, Dasha Mata, warned him of impending misfortune due to his disrespect. From then on, their kingdom faced a series of hardships—wealth vanished, peace faded, and hunger plagued the land.
In desperation, King Nala decided to leave the kingdom with his family. Entrusting their sons to a trustworthy family, they embarked on a journey. Along the way, they reached their friend’s home. Here, they were blamed for stealing the friend’s wife’s diamond necklace. Fearing false accusations, they fled in the night.
Their journey led them to Queen Damayanti’s family, where they faced struggles and trials from their near-dear ones.
Despite all the challenges, Nala and Damyanti remained together, supporting each other through thick and thin.
Eventually, they found work in a new city, leading humble lives. But the shadow of their past followed them, haunting their every step.
During another Holi Dasha festival, they sought forgiveness from Dasha Mata, and miraculously, their fortunes began to change.
From this day, during, Dasha Maa’s Vrat, women started wearing the white string thread, around their necks, and worshipping the peepal tree, to seek the blessings of Dasha Maa.
Their journey back to their kingdom was met with joyous welcomes, and they resumed their rule, wiser and more humble than before.
