Navratri : Day 4 – The Beautiful and Powerful Kushmanda Devi

The fourth day is also known as Chaturthi.

The fourth day is dedicated to worship Goddess Kushmanda.

Ku signifies “A Little”,

Ushma signifies “Warm Energy”

Anda signifies “Cosmic Egg”.

She is the “Creative Energy of the Universe”. Hence, she is associated with taking care of or looking after the vegetation on earth.

She is depicted sitting on a Tiger and having eight arms.

Day Four: Kushmanda | कूष्माण्डा

Ku means little, ushma means energy and anda means egg. Kushmanda is the minute particle or egg from which creation takes place.

At the beginning of the dawn of time the universe was no more than a void full of darkness. Suddenly a ray of divine light, which was ever-existing, spread everywhere, illuminating each and every nook of the void. This sea of light was formless. Suddenly, it started taking a definite shape and took the form of the Goddess Kushmanda. The birth of the universe is said to have occurred because of the radiant smile of the goddess.

Mantra of the day:

“Aum Devi Kushmaandaayai Namaha!”
ॐ देवी कूष्माण्डायै नमः॥

Jai Maa Durga 🕉️🔱
